Your route starts at Cafe-Restaurant De Gouden Leeuw. As a cyclist, when you think of Alblasserdam and the Alblasserwaard, you can hardly help but think of windmills. The area derives its characteristic, historic identity mainly from the many windmills along the Kinderdijk in Nieuw-Lekkerland. The highlight of this route is Kinderdijk, known for its windmills. There are nineteen windmills around the Kinderdijk. You also cycle past Alblasserdam and cross the water with the ferry to Oostendam. Via Krimpen aan de IJssel you follow this beautiful winding river north, towards Capelle aan den IJssel and Nieuwerkerk aan den IJssel. At the end of the ride, a short distance along the Dorpstraat of Oud-IJsselmonde (nowadays the Bovenstraat).
