Description

Your route starts at Hundred BunderBos. First you take a nice tour through the Loonse and Drunense Duinen. Because of the drifting dunes, this nature reserve is nicknamed the 'Brabantse Sahara'. Your route takes you through the forests that have been planted to control the drifting sand. You cycle into Waalwijk on a former railway line between Lage Zwaluwe and's Hertogenbosch, constructed for the leather industry. The railway was opened between 1886 and 1890 and was entirely financed with revenues from the Indies. The connection was officially called the Langstraatlijn, but was colloquially called the Halve Zolenlijn because of the shoe industry in Waalwijk. You cycle back along the Wielen van Waalwijk, lakes that were created by a dike breach. At one time Waalwijk had as many as 27 of these'wheels\\\'!
