Reestdal tour and lookout tower

Your route starts at MyHotel Meppel. You can walk straight out of the city from here! On the border between Overijssel and Drenthe, the Reest meanders through an ancient stream valley. A beautiful authentic landscape with hay meadows, fields, heathlands, estates and monumental farms. This is still a piece of the Netherlands from the past. The lookout tower gives you a beautiful view of the meandering Reest, from a height of 7 meters. From here you can clearly see the differences between the Staphorst agricultural parcellation and the natural Reestdal. Meppel is also clearly visible. You walk back through the Wilhelminapark in Meppel. Here is a Geological Monument for the Reest. It explains the history of the origin of this river that meanders so beautifully through the Reestdal. This high moor stream drained the excess water from the Drenthe marshes.
