Reestdal loop and lookout tower

Your route starts at MyHotel Meppel. You'll walk straight out of the city from here! On the border between Overijssel and Drenthe, the Reest River winds through a centuries-old stream valley. A beautiful, authentic landscape with meadows, fields, heathlands, estates, and historic farms. This is a slice of the Netherlands from the past. The observation tower offers a magnificent view of the meandering Reest, from a height of 7 meters. From here, you can clearly see the differences between the Staphorst agricultural parcels and the natural Reest Valley. Meppel is also clearly visible. You walk back through Wilhelminapark in Meppel. Here you'll find a Geological Monument for the Reest. It explains the history of the river that meanders so beautifully through the Reest Valley. This raised bog stream drained excess water from the Drenthe marshes.
