Tour of Reestdal and lookout tower

Your route starts at MyHotel Meppel. You can easily walk out of the city here! On the border between Overijssel and Drenthe, the Reest meanders through an ancient stream valley. A beautiful authentic landscape with meadows, fields, heathlands, estates and monumental farms. This is still a part of the Netherlands from the past. The lookout tower gives you a beautiful view of the winding Reest, from a height of 7 meters. From here you can clearly see the differences between the Staphorster agricultural allotment and the natural Reestdal. Meppel is also clearly visible. You walk back through the Wilhelmina Park in Meppel. There is a Geological Monument for the Reest here. It explains the history of this river that meanders so beautifully through the Reestdal. This raised bog stream drained excess water from the Drenthe marshes.
