Your route starts at MyHotel Meppel. You'll soon enter Wilhelminapark, with its characteristic tea house. This octagonal building with a thatched roof was built around 1840. It was a place to relax, drink tea or play billiards, a typical status symbol of the time. The high windows offered an optimal view. A little further on stands the De Weert windmill. An active group of millers, or mulders in the proper Drenthe dialect, provides attractive products in Meppel's smallest shop: flour, linseed oil, mustard, and "vin du moulin," for example. The De Vlijt windmill is an imposing structure with a span of 21.80 meters. The Grote Kerk (Great Church), also known as the Maria Church, dominates the Meppel cityscape. The church dates from the 15th century. You'll walk back along the charming Stoombootkade.
Tour tip; Hiking with kids! Routes up to 5 km are ideal
