Description
Camping Monte Bello, your starting point for today, is beautifully situated in the green between Markelo and Goor. It is quite sloping here: you are sitting in the middle of a moraine! The Herikerberg is a hill of almost 47 meters high. From the top, but also from the flanks, you have beautiful views of the Twente scenic landscape and the surrounding villages: a beautiful mosaic of old forests, meadows and fields. You can take a leisurely stroll here and occasionally take a bench for a break or picnic. Or enjoy the silence for a moment. There is a former lookout tower on the mountain from 1890. This was built on behalf of Count Bentinck, the then resident of Weldam Castle. There are also prehistoric burial mounds scattered throughout the area.
