Between Almere and Zeewolde you will find a beautiful green area where you can cycle in peace. You drive along the peripheral lakes that separate Flevoland from the rest of the Netherlands. You also pass through the Horsterwold and the Almere Hout.
Shipwrecks
The first part of this route takes you along the Nijkerkernauw and the Eemmeer. Get some fresh air while enjoying the natural beauty. You then pass through Almere Hout, a varied nature reserve. You will also pass two places where shipwrecks from the Zuiderzee were found during the reclamation of Flevoland. You recognize these memories from the past by a blue and white pole with a red ship at the top.
Horsterwold
With approximately 4,200 hectares, this nature reserve is the largest contiguous deciduous forest in Western Europe. You will see chestnuts, oaks, poplars and cherry trees. No matter how young, the trees look as if they have been standing for hundreds of years. Finally, you drive a bit through yet another nature reserve: the Hulkesteinse Bos.
