Montferland, Gelderland, The Netherlands
Cycling route: 4737366
Provided by: Stichting Montferland Marketing
From Montferland you can cycle across the German border in no time. This way you can enjoy wooded hills and the German town of Emmerich am Rhein within one route. The best of both worlds! Your route starts in Beek. You drive to Zeddam via Kilder. Here you will pass the Volharding, a flour mill from 1891. Be sure to get off at the medieval Huis Bergh castle, surrounded by a moat and an old fortification wall. In Emmerich am Rhein you will see the longest suspension bridge (1228 meters) in Germany. Further on you drive through the Emmericher Ward, one of the few remaining natural forests on the Rhine. The village of Elten was assigned to the Netherlands after the Second World War, a measure that was reversed in 1963.
