Hiking route: 4710939
Provided by: Wandelroutes Routiq België
The starting and ending point of this walking route is in Diest, a sub-municipality of Haacht. It is a historical city with, among other things, the Stadsmuseum De Hofstadt, the Gothic parish church Sint-Sulpitiuskerk and the Sint-Janskerkruine.
You continue along the Provincial Domain De Halve Maan with the Webbekoms Broek Visitors' Centre and along the Boerenkrijgplein, behind the historic Petrolpoort, where two impressive cannons are set up, aimed at the Webbekoms Broek and the lock complex. The route takes you further along the Saspoort and the Schaffense Poort, two iconic gates of Diest.
You walk through the sculpture park Park Jan Heylen and past the impressive Fort Leopold. Outside Diest you come through a varied landscape of castles, fields and forests.
The route can be divided into two parts: a historical route full of sights and a nature walk through the Dassenaarde Nature Reserve.
The route is fully signposted with hiking junctions.
