Tour It Wikelslan from Earnewald

Your route starts at Princenhof, Hotel & Restaurant. In the It Wikelslân nature reserve you can spot rare birds such as the bluethroat and the bearded bird. You will also come across deer, something you might not expect in Friesland! It is wonderfully quiet, just outside the village of Earnewâld. The swamp forest is part of the Alde Feanen National Park, one of the largest swamp areas in Western Europe. It has no less than 4,000 hectares. The area was once referred to as unland, because the residents here lead a poor life. The water area looks very rough, but it was created from peat excavations. Now it is a popular area for water sports enthusiasts, you see boats everywhere. That immediately gives you a real holiday feeling!
