Description
Your route starts at't Wellse Veerhuis. A little further on you cross the Maas by ferry, always fun! On the other side you discover the beautiful fortified town of Heusden. Here you can still see the star-shaped pattern of the fortifications. You will encounter even more history when you have crossed the Land van Heusden en Altena: Woudrichem is a beautiful town. But the real highlight of this route is Slot Loevestein! Take the time to visit, there is a lot to see in and around the castle. It is beautifully situated, in a strategic location on the water. Battery under Poederoijen was built around 1880 as part of the New Dutch Waterline. In the event of a threat of war, the western part of the Bommelerwaard would be flooded.
