Walking route Echt and De Doort

With this route you will discover Echt and the De Doort nature reserve. First you walk with your legs loose in the Bovenstestraat. Here you will pass some beautiful monumental buildings, such as the nineteenth-century Carmelite Monastery. The German philosopher and Carmelite woman Edith Stein stayed here until her deportation in 1942. Further on you walk through the hamlet of Gebroek. At junction 94 you pass the St. Anne's Chapel from 1896. In De Doort you walk through a landscape of deciduous forest and flowery grasslands. There are also tile holes: ponds that were created because clay was extracted from old Meuse meanders. This clay was used by the Echter roof tile industry. You walk back to Echt via Ophoven and the path along the Molenbeek. Here you can still see the centuries-old St. Landricus Church. At Davvero Bistro you can enjoy a tasty snack.
