Description
De Maashorst is the largest contiguous nature reserve in North Brabant. This green heart of Brabant consists of quiet forests, heathlands, impressive drifting dunes, fens and meadows that are intersected here and there by winding streams. This route takes you through this beautiful area.
Cycling across the Schaijkse Heide
The hamlet of Bedaf is the starting point of this route. From here you cycle into the Maashorst nature reserve. You will pass through the Trentse Bossen, an elongated forest area of approximately 150 hectares, and then you will cycle across the Schaijkse Heide. Many deer and foxes live in this heathland area and find all the peace and space they need here. The animals don't show themselves often, but if you are quiet you might spot one of these beautiful animals. Furthermore, Scottish Highlanders graze leisurely in this area. Along the way you can get to know the Brabant towns of Nistelrode and Loosbroek.
Windlust mill
In Nistelrode you cycle past Windlust Windmill. It is not known exactly when this mill was built, but it was certainly already there in 1600. In the 1950s the mill came to a standstill and as a result the mill fell into serious disrepair. The mill was therefore completely renovated in 1974. Since then, milling has been carried out with this mill on a voluntary basis.
