Mill route Alblasserwaard: from Schoonhoven to Kinderdijk

South Holland has over two hundred windmills: this province is the 'most windmill-rich' in the world! Get to know the windmills that used to drain the land and produce flour by bike, on foot or by car. Enjoy beautiful views or visit one of the many craft businesses along the route, where you can still taste real Gouda cheese, for example. This Windmill Route starts and ends at the place where the Lopikerwaard, Krimpenerwaard and Alblasserwaard cross each other: at Schoonhoven. The Silver City on the Lek has a rich cultural history. Tip: in July and August the windmills of Kinderdijk turn every Saturday, in early September the windmills are illuminated in the evening!
