Tour Krimpenerwaard from Schoonhoven

The town of Schoonhoven arose north of the Lek in the Krimpenerwaard, in a historically strategic location along the Zevender river. Twice, in 1375 and in 1518, the city suffered immense city fires. But Schoonhoven could not be reduced and from the seventeenth century onwards it became known as 'Silver City', because of the many silversmiths and the flourishing silver industry. If you want to know more about the rise of silver in the city, take a look at the Silver Museum. Here you will learn that many famous silversmiths already lived in the village in the seventeenth century. From Schoonhoven you can take a nice tour through the Krimpenerwaard.
