Oldenzaal, De Lutte, Weerselo

The municipality of Oldenzaal is located in the Northeast Twente National Park, which has an ash landscape. An ash (also called eng or enk) is a high-lying field, found on sandy soil. The oldest ash plots in this area date back to the first millennium AD. Small-scale landscape with many hedgerows, but also large plots of forest and the presence of many fens and streams, are characteristic of this environment. A beautiful wide and rolling area with many opportunities for agriculture, recreation and tourism.

Cycle past the Scholtenhaer-Rhododendronlaan De Lutte estate near Oldenzaal, cycle between the enormous rhododendron hedges that are at their best from early April to late June when they bear beautiful purple flowers. The Het Hakenberg and Egheria estates, with the Tankenberg, the highest mountain in Overijssel, are also on the route. From the Tankenberg you can see all the way to Germany in clear weather, but it is quite a climb.

Water and forest can be found at both Het Molenven and Het Hulsbeek. Of course you can also get off your bike to see something else. For example, get off at the Sint Plechelmus Basilica or at the protected village of Het Stift. In one day you will discover all the beautiful places in this area and Oldenzaal itself.
