Oldenzaal

The municipality of Oldenzaal is located in the Noordoost-Twente National Park, which has an es landscape. An es (also called eng or enk) is a high-lying field, found on sandy soil. The oldest parcels of es in this area date back to the first millennium after the Christian era. Small-scale landscape with many wooded banks, but also large parcels of forest and the presence of many fens and streams, are characteristic of this area. A beautiful wide and rolling area with many opportunities for agriculture, recreation and tourism.

Cycle along the Scholtenhaer-Rhododendronlaan De Lutte estate near Oldenzaal, cycle between the enormous rhododendron hedges that are at their most beautiful from early April to late June when they bear beautiful purple flowers. The Het Hakenberg and Egheria estates, with the Tankenberg, the highest mountain in Overijssel, are also on the route. From the Tankenberg you can see all the way to Germany in clear weather, but it is quite a climb.

Water and forest can be found at both Het Molenven and Het Hulsbeek. Of course, you can also get off your bike to see something else. For example, get off at the Sint Plechelmusbasiliek or at the protected village view Het Stift. In one day you will discover all the beautiful places of this area and Oldenzaal itself.
