The Gelderland Castle Route (part 3)

The province of Gelderland is characterized by beautiful nature, numerous castles and associated estates. The Geldersch Landschap Kasteelen organization proudly cares for many of these castles, but only seven are open to the public. Get to know the public castles in five beautiful cycling routes through the Gelderland landscape. During this stage you will cycle past no fewer than three castles, all located around Arnhem. The country house of the same name is located in the green oasis of Zypendaal Park. This country estate dates from the 18th century. The rooms on the ground floor are decorated in a historic style. You can visit the castle on certain Sundays per month, see the website for the departure time. You then cycle out of the city of Arnhem towards Oosterbeek and Doorwerth. On this road you cross beautiful forests and estates. Located on the Lower Rhine and just southwest of Doorwerth is the next Geldersche Castle. Doorwerth Castle is a medieval castle that is still very complete. You can admire four collections, the castle rooms, the Dutch Hunting Museum, the National Forestry Collection and the Veluwezoom Museum. Park your bike for a visit and don't forget to take a walk through the surrounding garden and orchard. The route takes you back to Arnhem via the beautiful nature of the Veluwe. Through dense forest areas, streams and pools you arrive at Rosendael Castle. This castle is located on the edge of the Veluwezoom national park. Not only the castle is beautiful - inside and out in the Rosendael park of the same name around the castle you will see shell galleries, a tea dome, beautiful ponds and fountains. So it is guaranteed that you will enjoy a lot of natural beauty here. Tip: always check the opening hours of the castles before you get on your bike, most of them are not open every day.
