Cycling route through the hinterland of Deventer and Twello

Deventer, Twello, Diepenveen

This route starts in the southernmost tip of Overijsselse Diepenveen. You can park your car at Parkeerplaats Wechelerveld, at Wechelerweg 43 in Schalkhaar. You can then immediately pick up the route towards junction 65. In Diepenveen you pass the Gooiker tree nursery & garden center and in the season (from April to the end of June) you can visit the De Boerkamp asparagus farm and cycle towards Deventer with a well-filled bicycle bag.

Before you cross the IJssel, you drive past the monumental Rijsterborgherpark. This city park has a sculpture garden full of bronze and granite works of art and is a great opportunity to stretch your legs. The route continues across the imposing IJssel towards Twello, which means "two forests" or "double forest". And now Twello is located between two forests... We selected two windmills and a milk tap in this Gelderland village that are worth a visit.

You cycle through the rural area around the village and along the green banks of the IJssel towards the ferry that takes you back to Deventer. Museum De Waag and the Deventer Koekwinkel are highly recommended here. Via the suburbs of Deventer and the Buitengoed De Kolk Nature Park, where there is plenty of recreation, you cycle along the Kanaaldijk-Oost towards the hinterland of Deventer. Heerlijkheid De Linde is another stopover point that we can recommend.

Then you cycle in peace, along endless farmlands, back to where you started the route. You conclude a tour with typical Dutch scenes; mills, fields, farms, a ferry and a bicycle bag full of delicious products.
