Description

This walk starts at the paying parking place Albert 1, but in Dinant there are options for free parking, including at the abbey of Leffe (halfway through the walk).

The walk shows Dinant in a number of facets that most tourists do not discover. The part on the other side of the Maas is at least as spectacular in terms of views . She then goes to the heights of the citadel for spectacular views of the Meuse.

The walk first goes along the banks of the Maas to the Church of Our Lady. A little further away is the birthplace of Adolf Sax, which houses a small museum and the Adolf Sax monument.

We return along the beautiful quay to the General de Gaulle ferry . This bridge is beautifully decorated with colorful saxophones. On the other side we can take a detour to the impressive war memorial that commemorates the senseless massacres of the First World War.

From the other side, at the statue of Charles De Gaulle, there is a spectacular view of Dinant from the church below to the citadel above.

It continues along the water past the tourism office to the lock that we use to get back to the other bank. We see, among other things, the royal atheneum Adolf Sax.

A short detour to the Lady Abbey of Leffe and the beautiful brasserie'Le Confessionnal\\\' are worthwhile.

Back along the Maas to continue to the Paternier statue.

The route takes a path along the old Dry-Les-Wennes rampart , which is quite difficult to descend at the end (stairs). It is easier to stay along Rue Saint-Pierre until you reach Rue Saint-Jacques, but the path is more adventurous .

To see the panoramas over the Meuse, you now go up to the Citadel car park via the Rue Saint-Jacques. Anyone who wants can take the 480 steps to the telepherique.

Upstairs we take a look at the military cemetery that commemorates the heroic reconquest of the citadel in the First World War. We follow the walk with the yellow square and pass, among other things, the Tour de Monfat and the old telepherique.

A little further we come to a spectacular viewpoint over the Dinant, the Meuse and the citadel. We can immediately zigzag down along a forest path or along an easier path via the chemin des pelerins, which passes some wooden chapels.

It continues to the cultural center with Mr. Sax's tower and the Saint Nicolas church.

Be sure to consult the information about the sights once you are there . They explain what you will see!
