Relive the past in Hoensbroek Castle
Hoensbroek Castle is the starting and ending point of this route. This 13th century castle is one of the largest castles in the Netherlands. In the past, this castle was located on the important trade route between Maastricht, Aachen and Cologne and was used as a defensive castle and as a residence. Nowadays, you can visit the castle to take a look into the castle's past through a collection of centuries-old furniture and utensils.

You cycle from the castle towards Heerlen. From here you head towards Brunssum, Amstenrade, Oirsbeek and Schinnen. At the end of the route you will arrive back at the castle in Hoensbroek. Along the way you will make steep climbs, but don't let that put you off. You will get beautiful views and relaxed descents in return.
Natural beauty in the Brunssummerheide
This cycle route takes you along the Brunssumerheide nature reserve, an oasis of peace on the edge of a densely built-up area. Here you will find heathlands, lush forests, fens and marshlands that are intersected by the Roode Beek stream. You can also come across a herd of sheep grazing the area. Relax here for a while and enjoy the peace around you.
