Relive the past in Hoensbroek Castle
Hoensbroek Castle is the start and end point of this route. This castle from the 13th century is one of the largest castles in the Netherlands. This castle used to be located on the important trade route between Maastricht, Aachen and Cologne and was used as a defensive castle and as a residence. Nowadays you can visit the castle to get a glimpse into the castle's past through a collection of centuries-old furniture and utensils.

You cycle from the castle towards Heerlen. From here you set course for Brunssum, Amstenrade, Oirsbeek and Schinnen. At the end of the route you arrive back at the castle in Hoensbroek. You'll make some tough climbs along the way, but don't let that discourage you. You get beautiful views and relaxing descents in return.
Natural beauty in the Brunssummerheide
This cycling route takes you past the Brunssumerheide nature reserve, an oasis of peace on the edge of a busy built-up area. Here you will find heathlands, lush forests, fens and swamp areas that are intersected by the Roode Beek stream. You may also encounter a herd of sheep grazing the area here. Relax here for a moment and enjoy the peace around you.
