Explore the north of the Biesbosch

Your cycling route starts with a cup of coffee at Restaurant Metropole in Gorinchem. The first part of the route takes you to Werkendam. From here you cycle in the direction of Dordrecht through the beautiful areas of the Biesbosch. This is one of the few freshwater tidal areas in Europe. The St. Elizabeth's Flood of 1421 turned the polder into an inland sea and the water from the Maas and the Waal also had an influence on the area. Along the way you take a trip on the ferry to Kop van't Land. Then you cycle along the edge of the Biesbosch on the Island of Dordrecht. Persistent western storms sometimes push up the water, causing the water level to rise in the Biesbosch. It can sometimes get very wet, especially on the Island of Dordrecht.
