Explore the north of the Biesbosch

Your cycling route starts with a cup of coffee at Restaurant Metropole in Gorinchem. The first part of the route takes you to Werkendam. From here you cycle in the direction of Dordrecht through the beautiful areas of the Biesbosch. This is one of the few freshwater tidal areas in Europe. The Sint-Elizabeth flood of 1421 transformed the polder into an inland sea and the water from the Maas and Waal also influenced the area. On the way you take a trip with the ferry to Kop van't Land. You then cycle along the edge of the Biesbosch on the Island of Dordrecht. Persistent westerly storms sometimes push up the water, causing the water level to rise in the Biesbosch. It can therefore sometimes get very wet, especially on the Island of Dordrecht.
