Description
This route takes you for miles along the IJsselmeer and through the quiet inland of Friesland. The starting point of this route is on the edge of the Rijsterbos. This forest was planted in the 17th century as a coppice by a regent family. In the Middle Ages, Stavoren was a prosperous Hanseatic city where many ships docked to trade their goods, but nothing remains of that trade. Hindeloopen profited enormously from the trade between 1650 and 1790. You can still see this today in all the beautiful historical buildings that have been preserved. It is also known for its painted furniture. From Hindeloopen you cycle along the De Morra lake to the starting point of the route.
