A figure eight at Haastrecht

Your route starts at Cheese Farm De Twee Hoeven. A footpath runs across the yard to the beautiful Steinse polder behind the farm. This polder between the Steinse Groen and the Hollandse IJssel has been landscaped with herb-rich grassland, where animals can find food and hide. The nature zone continues to the Hollandse IJssel where it connects to (future) nature in the Krimpenerwaard. The pleasant Haastrecht originated around 1100 at the place where the Vlist flows into the Hollandsche IJssel. One of the most beautiful buildings in this historic town is the old town hall from 1618. From the steps of the town hall you can look out over the characteristic drawbridge over the IJssel, built in 1883. The tower of the Dutch Reformed Church dates from the 13th century.
