Tour of the Eese Estate

Your route starts at Buitengoed Fredeshiem. The De Eese estate is located north of Steenwijk. A large part of De Eese is privately owned. Here is a forest of 440 hectares, 360 hectares of land is used for agriculture. There is an old castle on the estate that was probably built at the beginning of the seventeenth century. An old country house and a large barn stand like silent sentinels at the castle. A smaller part of De Eese, the Eeserveld, is maintained by Staatsbosbeheer. Burial mounds are hidden between the trees. On a heathland the trees part to offer a beautiful view over the heath. Historic cart tracks from the Middle Ages run through the area, so keep your eyes peeled for these fun glimpses into the past!
