The cycle route starts and ends at Pannenkoekenboerderij Kernhem. You will soon pass a listening point of the Liberation Route, the route of the liberators at the end of the Second World War. It is worth getting off and hearing what happened at L55: Battle of the Ginkelse Heide. Huge airborne landings took place here, as part of Operation Market Garden. A large part of the army got stuck in Oosterbeek, where Hotel Hartenstein became their headquarters. There was heavy fighting all around. When the British finally withdrew across the Rhine, Hartenstein was left behind in ruins. The Airborne Museum is now located on this historic site. You cycle back via Doorwerth Castle, another nice place to get off.
Below you will find various suggestions for breaks that you can visit during your route. These are divided into different categories, making it easy for you to choose.
