Further on you will pass the Wenumse Molen, a beautiful fourteenth-century water mill on the Wenumse Beek. It served as a corn mill, but also as a copper mill. Then you cycle behind Paleispark Het Loo. You cycle for a long time through the quiet forests of the Royal Houtvesterij Het Loo, the largest contiguous forest area in the Netherlands. This is where you really get a sense of how vast the forests of the Veluwe are. Long avenues with tall deciduous trees alternate with winding paths and sudden open heathlands. Niersen is a wonderfully authentic hamlet, a typical Veluwe es- or enkneder settlement. Niersen was first mentioned around 1335 as the'marka Niirsen\\\'. From the Middle Ages onwards, the people here lived from sheep farming and arable farming.
