Tour of Balk and Balksterbos

From the starting point you take a walk through the picturesque centre of Balk, a beautiful old town. You will experience a wonderful historical atmosphere here. In the past, the milk from the surrounding farms was processed into butter and then traded in the village. The river Luts flows right through it, here you will find lots of conviviality with terraces, shops and passing boats. This beautiful village inspired the poet Herman Gorter to write his poem May. You walk back through the Balksterbos, a young forest that lies against Balk. You will mainly see coniferous and deciduous trees. There are many paths so that the residents of Balk can walk a different route every time. Many birds live in the forest, such as nuthatches and tree creepers. Sparrowhawks and jays breed here.
