Tour of Sloten and Wikel

Your route starts at Herberg Boswijck B&B. The Vaste Burchtkerk in Wijckel or Wikel dates from the end of the seventeenth century. The church contains the mausoleum of fortress builder Menno van Coehoorn. Opposite the Wikelerbosk you will see a beautiful small house with special decorations - these probably come from the remains of Meerenstein, the pleasure garden of Menno van Coehoorn. He had a good reputation thanks to several successful sieges, with his most important achievement being the conquest of Namur in 1695. Sloten is a beautiful old town: the original ramparts and structure have been almost completely preserved. There are also 50 national monuments.
