Tour of Sloten and Wikel

The Vaste Burchtkerk in Wijckel or Wikel dates from the end of the seventeenth century. The church houses the mausoleum of fortress builder Menno van Coehoorn. Opposite the Wikelerbosk you can see a beautiful little house with special decorations - these probably come from the remains of Meerenstein, the pleasure garden of Menno van Coehoorn. He had a good reputation thanks to various successful sieges, with the most important feat of arms being the conquest of Namur in 1695. Sloten is a beautiful old town: the original ramparts and structure have been almost completely preserved. There are also 50 national monuments. A good moment for a break, to soak up the atmosphere and enjoy this special cultural history at your leisure!
