Experience the silence in Kempen-Broek

Unknown does not necessarily mean unloved. Certainly not if you want to spend a leisurely day cycling. The cycle paths in Grenspark Kempen-Broek are still quiet. Strange really, once you have experienced how beautiful this area is.

Kempen-Broek
Kempen-Broek Border Park is located roughly between Weert and Maaseik. This cross-border nature reserve consists of a series of different landscapes where you can travel many beautiful kilometers. For example, you drive through the Laurabossen, a typical example of former timber extraction forests. In this former heath and drifting sand area you will experience a wonderfully refreshing silence among the many coniferous trees. In both the Netherlands and Belgium you also drive along the green banks of the Zuid-Willemsvaart, a canal from 1826 that runs from Maastricht to Den Bosch.

Belgian nature
In Belgium you drive through the Goort, a swampy forest area. A little further on you will pass through Hasselterbroek, a nature reserve where you will find a mix of meadows, small forests and heathlands. Just like on the Dutch side of the border, this part of Limburg is also remarkably quiet. And beautiful. The route ends in the middle of the Stramprooise Heide nature reserve. Hidden among the woods, you can enjoy a drink and a delicious meal here at the cozy Nieuw Vosseven Naturally Located.

Treasures of Stramproy
Stramproy is the only major village on your route. In and around this village you will pass a number of old mills, such as the Broekmolen from 1738. This undershot water mill is located on the Aanbeek that flows along the Dutch-Belgian border. De Nijverheid is a flour mill from 1903 in Stramproy. A little further on is the Sint-Jansmolen, a flour mill from 1783. The church on the village square is also a beautiful sight. The marl tower of this St. Willibrordus Church dates from the sixteenth century.
