Smakt-Holthees is a special twin village. Where Smakt belongs to Limburg, Holthees is located in North Brabant. With this walking route you explore the beautiful rural surroundings on the border of these two provinces.

Pilgrimage site Smakt
Near the starting point of your route, you will pass the Sint-Joseph chapel from 1699. The chapel was mainly built because the churchgoers thought the distance to the parish church in Venray was too great to attend early mass. Smakt is also the only place of pilgrimage for Saint Joseph in the Netherlands. West of Smakt you walk for a while through the fragrant coniferous forest that belongs to the Overloonse Duinen nature reserve.

Chapel Holthees
You walk a bit along the babbling Loobeek where you pass a war memorial in memory of the Second World War. In Holthees you will pass a religious monument: the Chapel of Our Lady, which originally dates from the fifteenth century. The accompanying bell tower dates from 1639. South of Holthees you walk on Op De Bus, a road through a former swamp area.
