Description

Your route starts at Taverne't Koetshoes. First you pass through Oud-Valkenburg. Because of the beautiful surroundings and the historic buildings, this town enjoys a protected village view. From the road you can see the sixteenth-century Genhoes Castle. You will also pass a beautiful square farm and a small church from the twelfth century. The Gerendal is a dry valley, created by run-off rainwater. It is known for its orchids. On the edge of the hamlet of IJzeren you have a beautiful view of the surroundings. Then you walk down through the Sint-Jansbos. You walk back to your starting point via the Geulpark and Kasteel Oost. The first mention of the castle dates back to 1340, so be sure to take a look here! It was built with ocher-colored marl from the area.
