Description

In Vreden, Germany, you cross the Berkel, a small river that flows further into the Netherlands. You will also pass the beautiful Berkelmeertje, the Berckelsee. Stop for lunch at Restaurant De Voortwisch in the Netherlands! Nearby you will discover the Sevink Mölle mill at the recreational lake 't Hilgelo. Zwilbroek/Zwillbrock is a hamlet that is bisected by the border. In the German part is the St. Francis Church from 1720, the best preserved Baroque church in Münsterland. Nearby you pass through the Zwillbrocker Venn. This area is only accessible to cyclists and walkers, so it is wonderfully quiet. You will see many flamingos there: the Zwillbrocker Venn is the northernmost breeding area for flamingos in Europe. You can watch them from one of the bird hides.
