Description

Your route starts at Koffie & Theehuis't Momentje. Enjoy a cappuccino here with fresh milk from our own cows. Right next to this you will immediately discover the Reformed Church of Voorst, with its twelfth-century tower. A little further on you will pass the ruins of Nijenbeek Castle from the thirteenth century. Charles III of Guelders wanted to control shipping on the IJssel from this castle. Duke Reinoud III of Gelre was imprisoned here in 1361, when he was defeated in a brotherly feud. He was fed so well and became so fat that he could no longer fit through his cell door - the guards could simply leave the cell door open. When his brother died ten years later, the wall had to be broken down to release Reinoud.
