Description

Your route starts at Jagersrust. In the area you can enjoy cycling through the various nature reserves that together form the Maasduinen National Park. The Louisenburg lock is a monument of the Grand Canal du Nord, a grand project of Napoleon. This shipping connection between the Maas and the Rhine had to bypass the Dutch seaports, but when Napoleon came under the control of the canal, the canal was no longer necessary. Work stopped in 1811. The German Nettetal is part of the Maas-Schwalm-Nette border park. The Krickenbecker Seen are four lakes created by peat extraction around Krickenbeck Castle, in the valley of the Nette river. This nature reserve is one of the oldest and largest in North Rhine-Westphalia. Hop off in the nice old Venlo to get acquainted with the renovated Maasboulevard!
