Description

Your route starts at Leerhotel Het Klooster. This route takes you over the Utrechtse Heuvelrug. First you cycle to the Den Treek-Henschoten estate. This estate is almost 2000 hectares in size and is located at the point where the Utrechtse Heuvelrug transitions into the Gelderse Vallei. The estate is densely forested, although you will see small fields, fens and pieces of heathland here and there. You continue through Boswachterij Austerlitz. The associated village is named after the former Czech place where Napoleon won an important battle in 1805. At the beginning of the nineteenth century, this was a large heathland where the French army established Camp Zeist in 1804. When the French left the area, spruce, pine, oak and beech trees were planted.
