Description
At Eijsden, you cross the Meuse River, which forms a natural border between Belgium and the Netherlands. The Sint Pietersberg separates the Jeker and Meuse rivers. Two completely different landscapes: the Jeker is as charming as the Meuse is rugged and expansive. The Jeker flows into the Meuse in Maastricht, and it was precisely there that the Romans settled in Maastricht in the 1st century BC. The Jeker brought the Romans supplies from the farms in the hinterland. The Jekerkwartier, Maastricht's Latin Quarter, is one of the city's most beautiful neighborhoods.
