Description

Your route starts at Gasterie Bie de Burgemeister. After a cup of coffee, put on your walking shoes. Oud-Geleen is really very old: people already lived here around 5000 BCE. That makes it one of the oldest inhabited areas in the Netherlands. The church was already founded in Carolingian times (800-850). The current church tower dates from 1504. The Sittard City Park was completed in 1933, it was a job creation project. The beautiful park has been a national monument since 2000. Here you walk in the valley of the Geleenbeek, a watercourse that you follow for a while. In Munstergeleen, step inside the Chapel of Father Karel, in a half-timbered farm on the edge of the village. The visitor center, museum and silent garden are free of charge.
