Description

Your route starts at Gasterie Bie de Burgemeister. The Geleenbeek Valley is one of the few areas in the Netherlands where the corn wolf still occurs. The corn wolves that can still be found here in the Geleenbeek valley probably originate from a breeding program that was started to prevent extinction. On the eastern flank of the stream you enter the Danikerbos. You climb the Danikerberg, the highest point in the region. In the past, members of the Bokkenrijders gang of robbers were hanged here. Also note the small, overgrown slopes in open areas that you encounter here, called grafts. This allows small prey animals to move unobserved. It is a characteristic landscape element in South Limburg. You walk back via the fish pond, with a nice stretch along the Geleenbeek.
