Description

Your route starts at the Nieuwkerkse Hoeve. You cross the Rovertse Leij via the Paradijsbrug, a beautiful spot. The 17th century philosopher Johannes Goropius Becanus (Jan van Gorp) founded the Gorp and Roovert Estate nearby. He believed that Paradise must have been located here and wrote about it in his book Origines Antwerpianae. You cycle straight across his paradise estate, a mosaic of deciduous and coniferous forests, fields and grasslands. In Gorp you will see a beautiful monumental hunting lodge from 1870, locally called the small castle. The beautiful Vrijthof of Hilvarenbeek is a typical example of a Franconian market field. Get off at the Neterselse Heide in front of the lookout tower! Then you drive a bit across Landgoed De Utrecht. It was mined in 1898 as an investment by the life insurance company De Utrecht.
