City walk Willemstad | Zuiderwaterlinie

Willemstad is one of the eleven fortified towns of the Zuiderwaterlinie. The fortified city has the shape of a seven-pointed star and is surrounded by five forts, of which Fort Sabina is the most impressive. Over the centuries, the strategically located Defense Line of Willemstad has been an excellent place to control shipping between Holland, Zeeland and Antwerp. Walk past the Volkerak and the beautiful Swan Lake, the monumental Mauritshuis, the Blessed Virgin Mary Church and then past the Koepelkerk. Finally, you walk outside the ramparts on the canal, which gives you a different view of the ramparts.
