Lievelde: about hidden Church Paths

A network of cycling and walking paths, the Church Paths, runs straight through fields and meadows. These ancient paths were traditionally used to go to church. There was no transportation other than walking, so the routes had to be as short as possible. They were really connecting routes, which the children also used to go to school. The sandy paths and gravel roads run across the fields, past fields and past farms. Although many of those roads fell into oblivion, a large part of these Church Paths are still in use and restored, now only for recreational purposes.
