Tilburg, North Brabant, The Netherlands
Cycling route: 4470598
Provided by: Groots Genieten
You drive a bit through the Blaak, a forest on the edge of Tilburg. Then you drive briefly over the Bels Lijntje: a former railway line that takes you through forests and past meadows. The construction of the Bels Lijntje was a long and difficult process. For a long time, a cross-border line was unthinkable. After the secession of Belgium in 1830, both countries were at war. Expectations for the Turnhout-Tilburg line were high, but the route was never really successful. The completion of the Moerdijk Bridge in 1872 made the railway connection via Antwerp much more lucrative, connecting the port with Rotterdam. You drive back through Gilze and a number of friendly Brabant hamlets
