Tour of the Zeeland polder and Brabantse Wal

From your starting point, you first cycle to Krabbendijke for a cup of coffee at De Meiboom! Then you cycle through the Zeeland polder to the forests of the Brabantse Wal. You will clearly see (and feel!) the difference in height. The escarpment forms the sudden transition between the high Brabant sandy soils on the east side and the low-lying sea clay area of the Scheldt in the west. It is so special that it has been declared a geological monument. The Brabantse Wal has been formed by all kinds of developments: erosion by the river, dune formation by polar wind and deposits of river clay. The escarpment itself was created by the erosion by the Scheldt. The route takes you down the escarpment and back up again, via Woensdrecht, Ossendrecht and bird paradise the Markiezaatsmeer - one of the largest wetlands in the Netherlands.
