Baarle-Nassau, North Brabant, The Netherlands

Baarle-Nassau, the starting point of this route, is a story in itself. In this enclave village, 30 pieces of Belgium and the Netherlands are interwoven. The Bels Lijntje, a former railway line, takes you to Alphen. The construction of the Bels Lijntje took a lot of effort. For a long time, a cross-border line was unthinkable. After the secession of Belgium in 1830, both countries were at war. It was only from the middle of the nineteenth century that there was more trust on both sides. Here you can also see the Sint-Annakapel. The current building dates from 1842, but had a predecessor that was built in 1549. You drive back through the extensive Prinsenbos.
