Tour of Alphen, Nieuwkerk and Regte Heide

This cycle tour runs through the green border area below Breda and Tilburg. The vast and dense forests here used to offer sufficient opportunities to cross the border unnoticed. The Chaamse Bossen used to be a rough area with sand drifts and wet heathland, but between 1900 and 1935 it was reclaimed. Fens were drained, grassland emerged and Scots pines were planted. At Alphen and Riel you will come across the Bels Lijntje, a cycle path over a former railway line between Tilburg and Belgium. Further on you cycle over the Nieuwkerk estate, here you will find several beautiful farms and a beautiful monastery, in the middle of the forest. Along the edge of the Regte Heide and the Riels Laag you cycle back to your starting point.
