From dramatically beautiful to dramatically dilapidated, castles around Berg en Terblijt and Valkenburg. In the vicinity of Berg en Terblijt there is also an exceptional quarry, the Geulhemmergroeve, an old marl quarry with monumental rock dwellings. Until 1931, these were still inhabited by block breakers, strong men who cut out marl blocks underground.

Cycling you will pass the theatrically situated Kasteel Geulzicht, one of the most beautiful castles in South Limburg. Further on in the vicinity of Valkenburg you will discover at least a handful of castles, from the dilapidated but no less impressive Kasteel Valkenburg to the charming Kasteel Oost where The International Butler Academy was located from 2010 to 2015.
