Description

Your route starts at De Kogelvanger. Just below Breda is the historic country estate of Bouvigne, a former summer residence of prominent nobles. The estate consists of a fairytale castle surrounded by three special gardens and an orchard. It is beautifully situated on the edge of the Mark, where you can also walk along for a while. The Mark meanders again here, you walk along reed collars and flower-rich sparse grasslands while looking out over the rippling water. The Mastbos is so called because ships for the Spanish fleet and later the VOC were made from these trees. It is one of the oldest cultivated forests in the Netherlands. You also follow the Aa or Weerijs for a while, a stream that originates in Belgium and continues into the canals of Breda.
