Description

Your route starts at De Kogelvanger. After a cup of coffee, put on your walking shoes. The Mastbos owes its name to the Scots pines that grow there. In 1515, Count Henry III of Nassau had the then heathland planted with pine seeds from Germany. These trees were used to make ships for the Spanish fleet and later the VOC, hence the name Mastbos. It is one of the oldest cultivated forests in the Netherlands. In the middle of the forest you pass the Turfven, a tranquil spot! You can also walk through the lovely Ginneken with its terraces and special shops. The old Ginnekenmarkt is a former village market. Here you will see monumental mansions and the village pump from 1790. The Reformed Church dates from the fifteenth century.
