Tour of Maeslantkering and Staelduinsebos

Your route starts at Boer Pait / Boerderij Hoogendonk. Bring something tasty for the road! From here you can take a nice walk along the Nieuwe Waterweg, a man-made connection between the port of Rotterdam and the North Sea. The canal was built in 1872. From the dike you have beautiful views over the water, the harbor and the Westland. There are always large ships passing by, on their way to distant destinations overseas. Here you see the Maeslantkering, which was put into use in 1997, one of the last parts of the Delta Works. An impressive feat of engineering! You will also encounter nature on this varied route. The Staelduinse Bos is located on former river dunes. It was established as an estate in the nineteenth century and consists mainly of old deciduous forest.
