Enjoy Southwest Friesland

From Sloten you drive into the well-known Frisian landscape with its flat polders, lakes and panoramic views. Already on the horizon you can see the Gaasterland coming closer: a sloping boulder clay ridge covered with forests. The highest point of the Gaasterland can be found near the village of Oudemirdum: it rises almost thirteen meters above NAP. You will pass through some picturesque Frisian villages, such as Laaxum and Warns. Balk enjoys a protected village view, the village inspired the poet Herman Gorter to write his poem Mei. Sloten: the picturesque town enjoys a protected cityscape and is home to 50 national monuments. Sloten also calls itself the smallest city in the world.
