Crossing the German border from Sittard

Cycling through the border area
The starting point of this route is in the small town of Nieuwstadt. From here you cycle to the centre of Sittard, one of the oldest cities in the Netherlands. In Sittard you will find both modern buildings and historical buildings and half-timbered houses. From Sittard you cycle on to Geleen and Bingelrade and then cross the German border to Süsterseel and Tüddern. Here you cycle through the nature reserve Tüdderner Fenn with marshes and forests in the valley of the Rode Beek. You will find various fens throughout the area. A little further on you cycle past De Millenermolen on the edge of Millen. This watermill on the border of the Netherlands and Germany was built in 1849.

\\\'t Sjpaorhutje

Grasbroek Castle
Grasbroek Castle in the area of Born was built in 1596. Until 1700 the castle remained in the hands of the same owner and then the castle had different owners until 1985. Today it is in the hands of Natuurmonumenten. Originally the castle had a moat, but it has been drained and is hardly recognizable in the landscape. In 1987 the castle was extensively restored, with some parts of the castle being restored to their former glory.
